This poster proposes a conceptual model to guide the use of art as qualitative data for the empowerment of people living with dementia (PLWD). The fusion of structuration theory with a framework of empowerment is an innovative, forward thinking, vital step towards person-centered, anti-oppressive qualitative dementia research.
Learning Objectives:
At the end of this session, attendees should be able to:
Consider how the social work ethics of empowerment and social justice are not upheld to professional potential in current qualitative dementia research.
Uncover the disconnect between the subjective framework of empowerment in an interpersonal arts-based intervention and how the voices of PLWD are used to shape the institution of qualitative research as primary empirical data.
Explore the role of art as qualitative data and the potential power for decreasing stigmatization through knowledge dissemination.
