Bridging Disciplines: The Role of Social Work Researchers in Interdisciplinary Dementia Research

This study examines the significance of social work values that social work researchers bring to interdisciplinary dementia research, particularly in the recruitment process. Major contributions of social work researchers include ensuring accessible communication, addressing ethical considerations, advocating for participants, providing an inclusive research environment, and considering family caregivers.

Learning Objectives:

At the end of this session, attendees should be able to:
  1. Upon completion, participants will be able to identify the unique roles social work researchers play in interdisciplinary dementia research, particularly in community engagement and participant recruitment.
  2. Upon completion, participants will be able to describe the key social work principles, such as ethical considerations, communication, and advocacy, and their impact on the successful conduct of dementia research.
  3. Upon completion, participants will be able to evaluate the importance of integrating social work values into neuroscience and bioengineering research, especially in creating a supportive and inclusive research environment for vulnerable participants.
