This presentation highlights the role of a community advisory board (CAB) in shaping research focused on mental health recovery for Black adults with Serious Mental Illness (SMI). It explores how the CAB amplifies community voices, co-creates knowledge, and advocates for a holistic, equitable approach to mental health services.

This author will explain the role of a CAB in bridging academia, community, and research, while fostering community-driven mental health research.
The author will share perspectives from CAB members, including their encouraging messages about seeking mental health care within the Black community as well as their insights on pathways to mental health recovery.
Upon completion of the presentation, participants will understand the importance of dismantling systemic barriers to mental health services through the formation of collaborative partnerships and solicitation of community involvement.
