Efforts to erase HIV continue, treating it merely as a chronic condition. A Queer Discourse Study investigated how HIV discourse affects Queer men. The HIV Stress Exchange model offers a framework for HIV-informed and Queer-affirmative practice, addressing intergenerational stress communicated through everyday behaviors.
Learning Objectives:
At the end of this session, attendees should be able to:
Describe HIV in critical terms, as an embodied discourse and intergenerational stress.
Identify an example of the application of transdisciplinary theory, research, and clinical practice, amongst social work, public health, and critical communication studies.
Appraise an applied model of HIV intergenerational transmission and for HIV- and queer affirmative practice, resisting seronormativity and anti-Queer oppression.
