Like other socially marginalized populations who are carving out their own identities, those with autism are changing the deficit based, negative narrative in US higher education. Understanding and supporting neurodiverse learners can change lives and culture. It can begin with the social work classroom.

Participants will understand how higher education and the social work academy have been unprepared to teach learners who are neurodiverse
Students will compare models of disability and understand the benefits of neurodivergent model.
Participants will understand the challenges to supporting neurodiverse learners and why Universal Design for Learning will help fill in the gaps for students
