A Syndemic Approach to Sexual and Reproductive Health Among Malawian Women in Blesser Relationships.

This study utilized a syndemic approach to understanding the sexual and reproductive health (SRH) of Malawian women in Blesser relationships, which are characterized by transactional dynamics between older, wealthier men (Blessers) and younger women. Results highlight a complex interplay between economic vulnerability, gender inequality and SRH risks.

Learning Objectives:

At the end of this session, attendees should be able to:
  1. Upon completion, the participant will be able to define syndemic research in relation to Blesser relationships and their impact on Malawian women.
  2. Upon completion, the participant will be able to understand the definition, dynamics and implications of Blesser relationships through the lived experiences of Malawian women.
  3. Upon completion, the participant will be able to understand the complex interplay between economic vulnerability, gender inequality and sexual and reproductive health (SRH) of Malawian women in Blesser relationships.
