The Ohio State University College of Social Work comprises students, faculty, staff and alumni who build stronger communities, celebrate differing viewpoints, and promote a wide variety of lived experiences. We readily collaborate with the social work community to improve and resolve an extensive array of contemporary societal issues — making us an integral and valuable resource to the state of Ohio and the nation. As a comprehensive land-grant institution, our focus is on serving our communities. We do this by engaging in teaching, scholarship and service that shapes behavioral health, child and youth services, substance use and misuse, gerontology, advocacy, environmental justice, and so much more. Through our Bachelor of Science in Social Work (BSSW), Master of Social Work (MSW), and PhD programs, students experience and explore the knowledge, values and skills required for professional social work practice and research. Our graduates leave here ready to make an impact. Social work has a long and rich tradition at The Ohio State University, starting with our very first social work course offered in 1875. We conveyed our first Bachelor of Social Service in 1916, our first master’s degree in 1923, and our first doctorate in 1934. First accredited in 1919, the College of Social Work is the oldest continuously accredited public social work program in the country. Both programs were reaffirmed for accreditation until October 2026. We are proud of our more than 100-year history of providing exceptional social work education. Our commitment to offering a world-changing academic experience is visible in our top 12 national ranking and top 7 for public schools. We are a college on the move! Amplify. Advocate. Change. Together, Buckeyes change the world.
